Kestrel DROP D3 battery
1 × 3V lithium coin cell
How to replace it
| How to open | Open battery door; inspect O-ring is clean and aligned before closing |
|---|---|
| Orientation | Positive (+) side facing up (coin cell) |
| Seal / O-ring | Inspect O-ring when opening; ensure clean and properly aligned when closing |
| Water resistance | IP67 — reseat O-ring fully after battery change |
| Re-pair / reset | Yes |
| Re-pair after change | Yes |
| Notes | After battery replacement you MUST reconnect to the Kestrel LiNK app so time/date for logging are updated. Optional longer life: CR2050 requires changing to a Kestrel 123 battery door — not a drop-in with stock door. |
| Access | Tool-free |
| Gasket / O-ring present | Yes |
Important
- Standard cell is CR2032.
- CR2050 only with Kestrel 123 battery door (different door) — not interchangeable with stock DROP door.
- Cold weather + data download can tax the coin cell; warm unit / use fresh battery below ~14°F / −10°C.

New battery but still not working?
A fresh 1 × CR2032 should restore Kestrel DROP D3 if the battery was the problem. Work through the checks below before replacing the device.
- Check orientation
Confirm the cell is seated correctly: Positive (+) side facing up (coin cell)
- Check the battery type
This device needs 1 × CR2032 (lithium). Rechargeable cells are not supported for this device. Same size does not always mean the same battery.
- Check known model-specific issues
Re-pairing or a short reset may be required after a battery change. Inspect O-ring when opening; ensure clean and properly aligned when closing Standard cell is CR2032. CR2050 only with Kestrel 123 battery door (different door) — not interchangeable with stock DROP door. Cold weather + data download can tax the coin cell; warm unit / use fresh battery below ~14°F / −10°C.
- Confirm the battery itself
For most coin cells, fitting a known-good fresh cell of the correct code is simpler than capacity testing.
- Still not responding?
If a correct, fresh battery installed properly does not restore the device, the fault may be elsewhere — the device may need service or replacement.
