New battery but still not working?

A fresh 1 × CR2032 should restore Kestrel DROP D2 if the battery was the problem. Work through the checks below before replacing the device.

  1. Check orientation

Confirm the cell is seated correctly: Positive (+) side facing up (coin cell)

  2. Check the battery type

This device needs 1 × CR2032 (lithium). Rechargeable cells are not supported for this device. Same size does not always mean the same battery.

  3. Check known model-specific issues

Re-pairing or a short reset may be required after a battery change. Inspect O-ring when opening; ensure clean and properly aligned when closing Standard cell is CR2032. CR2050 only with Kestrel 123 battery door — not a drop-in with stock DROP door.

  4. Confirm the battery itself

For most coin cells, fitting a known-good fresh cell of the correct code is simpler than capacity testing.

  5. Still not responding?

If a correct, fresh battery installed properly does not restore the device, the fault may be elsewhere — the device may need service or replacement.

These checks follow this device’s orientation, battery type, and important notes from the maker.
