Apple Remote (aluminum) battery
1 × 3V lithium coin cell
How to replace it
| How to open | Open the battery compartment on the aluminum Apple Remote. Replace with one CR2032 (or BR2032) 3V lithium coin cell observing polarity. Close the compartment. Serial number is inside the battery compartment. |
|---|---|
| Tools | Coin or fingernail as needed for compartment |
| Orientation | Observe polarity marks |
| Notes | Apple documents CR2032 or BR2032. This is the older aluminum IR remote — not Siri Remote. |
| Access | coin |
Important
- Aluminum Apple Remote = 1× CR2032/BR2032. Siri Remote generations are sealed rechargeable — do not use this answer for Siri Remote.

New battery but still not working?
A fresh 1 × CR2032 should restore Apple Remote (aluminum) if the battery was the problem. Work through the checks below before replacing the device.
- Check orientation
Confirm the cell is seated correctly: Observe polarity marks
- Check the battery type
This device needs 1 × CR2032 (lithium). Rechargeable cells are not supported for this device. Same size does not always mean the same battery.
- Check known model-specific issues
Aluminum Apple Remote = 1× CR2032/BR2032. Siri Remote generations are sealed rechargeable — do not use this answer for Siri Remote.
- Confirm the battery itself
For most coin cells, fitting a known-good fresh cell of the correct code is simpler than capacity testing.
- Still not responding?
If a correct, fresh battery installed properly does not restore the device, the fault may be elsewhere — the device may need service or replacement.
