2 × 1.5V alkaline cell
Vizio XRT290 takes two AAA. If buttons still fail after fresh cells, re-pair the Bluetooth remote — do not change battery type.
How to replace it

| Orientation | Match +/- marks in the tray |
| Notes | XRT290 is a Bluetooth-capable Vizio remote — still uses two AAA per Vizio’s remote information sheet. |

Important
- Bluetooth pairing issues are separate from battery type — fit fresh AAA first, then re-pair if needed.

New battery but still not working?
A fresh 2 × AAA should restore Vizio XRT290 if the battery was the problem. Work through the checks below before replacing the device.
- Check orientation
Confirm the cell is seated correctly: Match +/- marks in the tray
- Check the battery type
This device needs 2 × AAA (alkaline). Same size does not always mean the same battery.
- Check known model-specific issues
Bluetooth pairing issues are separate from battery type — fit fresh AAA first, then re-pair if needed.
- Confirm the battery itself
If you have a battery tester or multimeter, check the cell. A low open-circuit voltage often means replace; for rechargeable AA/AAA, a capacity test is more informative than voltage alone.
- Still not responding?
If a correct, fresh battery installed properly does not restore the device, the fault may be elsewhere — the device may need service or replacement.
Replacing the device?
Vizio XRT290 is still sold new. Only consider a replacement if the checks above did not help.
