New battery but still not working?

A fresh 4 × AAA should restore Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus if the battery was the problem. Work through the checks below before replacing the device.

  1. Check the battery type

This device needs 4 × AAA (alkaline). Rechargeable cells are not supported for this device. Same size does not always mean the same battery.

  2. Check known model-specific issues

Backup listed as SR44SW or 303 silver oxide on TI KB Some regional TI-84 Plus T docs mention LR44 backup — treat as variant, do not collapse

  3. Confirm the battery itself

If you have a battery tester or multimeter, check the cell. A low open-circuit voltage often means replace; for rechargeable AA/AAA, a capacity test is more informative than voltage alone.

  4. Still not responding?

If a correct, fresh battery installed properly does not restore the device, the fault may be elsewhere — the device may need service or replacement.

These checks follow this device’s orientation, battery type, and important notes from the maker.

Need to replace the device?

Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus is still sold new. Only buy another if a fresh battery and the checks above did not help.
