Garage door remote batteries
Battery type follows the handheld transmitter or keypad part number, not the opener model alone. Remotes are often CR2032; wireless keypads (878MAX / 940EV) are usually 9V alkaline; some third-party or older transmitters use A23 (12V). Identify LiftMaster, Chamberlain or Genie by the printed accessory model first — never from a phone model like Galaxy A23.
Which generation do you have?
| Generation / model | Battery | Replaceable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| LiftMaster MAX (890MAX / 893MAX) | 1 × CR2032 | Yes | Coin-cell MAX remotes — do not confuse with 895MAX (CR2016). |
| LiftMaster 895MAX | 1 × CR2016 | Yes | Same instruction family as other MAX remotes but thinner CR2016 — not CR2032. |
| LiftMaster 878MAX keypad | 1 × 9V alkaline | Yes | Wireless keyless entry — not a CR2032 handheld remote. |
| LiftMaster LM (891LM / 893LM) | 1 × CR2032 | Yes | 893LM ≠ 893MAX shell family; both use CR2032. |
| LiftMaster LT learning remotes (892LT / 894LT) | 1 × AAA | Yes | AAA learning remotes — not the CR2032 MAX/LM coin-cell family. |
| Chamberlain KLIK1U / KLIK3U | 1 × CR2032 | Yes | KLIK3U manual: CR2032 only. Confirm printed model vs KLIK2U. |
| Chamberlain KLIK2U | 1 × 9V | Yes | Chamberlain specifies 9-volt for KLIK2U — not CR2032. |
| Chamberlain 940EV keypad | 1 × 9V alkaline | Yes | Wireless keyless entry — not a handheld CR2032 Clicker answer. |
| Genie G3T-R / G1T-BX | 1 × CR2032 | Yes | Genie sheets: programming typically not lost on battery change. |
| A23 / 23A 12V transmitters (identify first) | 1 × A23 (12V) — only if tray says so | Yes | Some garage/doorbell transmitters use A23. Harvested LiftMaster / Chamberlain / Genie pages above are CR2032, CR2016, AAA or 9V — do not assume A23 from opener brand. For a verified A23 remote example see Hampton Bay fan kits (ceiling-fan remotes hub). |

Still not working?
If a fresh correct cell does not restore range, re-check the printed accessory model (MAX CR2032 vs CR2016, keypad 9V vs remote CR2032, KLIK2U 9V, or A23 tray print). Replacement is by transmitter/keypad part number, not opener model alone. Samsung Galaxy A23 / A27 are phones — not battery sizes.
