Alarm sensor batteries
Ring Alarm contact and motion sensors change battery type by generation. Confirm 1st vs 2nd Gen in the Ring app or on the device label before buying — CR123A and CR2032 / AA answers are not interchangeable across gens.
Which generation do you have?
| Generation / model | Battery | Replaceable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ring Alarm Contact Sensor (1st Gen) | 1 × CR123A | Yes | Disarm Ring Alarm before opening the cover. Not the 2nd Gen 2× CR2032 answer. |
| Ring Alarm Contact Sensor (2nd Gen) | 2 × CR2032 | Yes | Replace both coin cells together. Keep coin cells away from children. Not CR123A. |
| Ring Alarm Motion Detector (1st Gen) | 1 × CR123A | Yes | Disarm before service. 2nd Gen uses 2× AA — do not conflate generations. |
| Ring Alarm Motion Detector (2nd Gen) | 2 × AA | Yes | Not the 1st Gen CR123A answer. Disarm Ring Alarm before opening the compartment. |
