Ceiling fan remote batteries
Ceiling fan remotes are not one battery. Hunter often uses CR2032; Hampton Bay kits may use A23 (23A), 2× AAA, or a coin cell. Open the door and match a generation below — do not buy from a generic search ad.
Which generation do you have?
| Generation / model | Battery | Replaceable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter fan remote (CR2032) | 1 × CR2032 | Yes | Hunter support: current remotes use CR2032 (+ side up). Some older Hunter/Casablanca systems use AAA or 9V. |
| Hampton Bay kit — 23A / A23 | 1 × A23 (12V / 23A) | Yes | Home Depot use-and-care kits that include a 23A (12V) cell. Not the same as AAA. |
| Hampton Bay kit — 2× AAA | 2 × AAA | Yes | Other Hampton Bay kits ship with two AAA — do not mix chemistries per the kit guide. |
| Harbor Breeze / other brands | Read the tray — do not assume | Yes | Common cells include CR2032, A23/23A, or AAA. Match the compartment print or the fan’s remote manual before buying. |

Still not working?
Only after the correct cell is fitted: check dip-switch / pairing codes between transmitter and canopy receiver. If the remote itself is cracked or dead, a matching or universal fan remote kit is the replacement path — frequency and light features must match.
