How battery codes work

Why LR44, AG13, A76 and L1154 can all mean the same battery.

What the letters mean

LR / AG — alkaline (usually 1.5V).

SR / SG — silver oxide (usually 1.55V).

CR / BR — lithium coin (usually 3V).

DL / ECR — brand names for CR lithium batteries.

What the numbers mean on lithium cells

On many CR batteries the number is the size: CR2032 is about 20.0 mm across and 3.2 mm thick.

CR2025 and CR2016 are the same width but thinner — they are not drop-in swaps.

Button and watch codes

Codes like SR626SW encode size in millimetres.

Shop shorthand like L1154 is often the same alkaline battery as LR44 / AG13 / A76.

Use our tools

Code lookup turns other names into the standard code. The code checker shows when names match — and when the same size is still a different battery.
