Yashica Electro 35 GSN battery

1 × 5.6V mercury (legacy) cell

The Electro 35 GSN booklet names Mallory PX32 or Eveready E164. Mercury cells are obsolete — use modern alkaline PX32A / A32PX. Insert (−) end first; check the green battery light.

How to replace it

How to openUnscrew the battery compartment cover with a coin. Insert the 5.6V-class cell with the (−) end in first, replace the cover, then press the battery-check button — a bright green light in the exposure counter means adequate power.

NotesRemove the cell for long storage. Prefer true PX32-size alkaline replacements; PX28 adapters are a workaround, not the OEM fit.

Important

  • Original mercury PX32 is obsolete — use modern alkaline PX32A / A32PX sized replacements.
  • Not an automatic 4LR44 / PX28 drop-in without an adapter and fit check.
  • GTN shares the same PX32 / E164 family callout in period manuals.

New battery but still not working?

A fresh 1 × PX32 should restore Yashica Electro 35 GSN if the battery was the problem. Work through the checks below before replacing the device.

  1. Check orientation

Confirm the cell is seated correctly: Minus (−) end in first

  2. Check the battery type

This device needs 1 × PX32 (mercury_oxide_legacy). Rechargeable cells are not supported for this device. Same size does not always mean the same battery.

  3. Check known model-specific issues

Original mercury PX32 is obsolete — use modern alkaline PX32A / A32PX sized replacements. Not an automatic 4LR44 / PX28 drop-in without an adapter and fit check. GTN shares the same PX32 / E164 family callout in period manuals.

  4. Confirm the battery itself

Try a known-good fresh cell of the exact code listed above.

  5. Still not responding?

If a correct, fresh battery installed properly does not restore the device, the fault may be elsewhere — the device may need service or replacement.

These checks follow this device’s orientation, battery type, and important notes from the maker.
