Motorola MHP81 battery

4 × 1.5V alkaline cell

Motorola Talkabout MHP81 (and MHP71) electronic earmuffs take two N alkaline batteries in each ear cup — four N cells total. Lift the foam flap in each cup, match polarity, and reseat. Not A23/A27. Remove cells before long storage to avoid corrosion.

How to replace it

How to openTurn each ear-cup volume knob off. Gently lift the foam flap inside each ear cup to expose the battery holder. Remove old N cells carefully (no sharp/conductive tools). Insert two fresh N alkaline cells per cup following the polarity markings, then reseat the foam flap.
OrientationFollow polarity (+/−) markings on each ear-cup holder

NotesMotorola: new batteries typically last over 220 hours. Remove batteries before long-term storage to avoid corrosion. Crackling/distortion often means replace with fresh N alkaline cells.

Important

  • Quantity is four N cells total — two per ear cup. Do not confuse N (1.5V) with A23/A27 (12V).
  • Hearing-protection fit and NRR claims are outside this battery page — follow Motorola fitting instructions.
  • Sibling MHP71 uses the same N-cell procedure — see that device page.

New battery but still not working?

A fresh 4 × N should restore Motorola MHP81 Electronic Earmuffs if the battery was the problem. Work through the checks below before replacing the device.

  1. Check orientation

Confirm the cell is seated correctly: Follow polarity (+/−) markings on each ear-cup holder

  2. Check the battery type

This device needs 4 × N (alkaline). Rechargeable cells are not supported for this device. Same size does not always mean the same battery.

  3. Check known model-specific issues

Quantity is four N cells total — two per ear cup. Do not confuse N (1.5V) with A23/A27 (12V). Hearing-protection fit and NRR claims are outside this battery page — follow Motorola fitting instructions. Sibling MHP71 uses the same N-cell procedure — see that device page.

  4. Confirm the battery itself

Try a known-good fresh cell of the exact code listed above.

  5. Still not responding?

If a correct, fresh battery installed properly does not restore the device, the fault may be elsewhere — the device may need service or replacement.

These checks follow this device’s orientation, battery type, and important notes from the maker.
