Battery code standards

Codes such as CR2032 or LR44 encode chemistry family and size. Retail pack labels often print aliases — those are not always the same battery.

What a code usually means

In common IEC-style round-cell naming, letters indicate chemistry / system and digits encode approximate diameter and height in tenths of a millimetre (for many coin/button families). Example: CR2032 ≈ 20 mm diameter × 3.2 mm thick, lithium manganese dioxide primary.

Exact definitions live in standards such as IEC 60086. BatteryByDevice uses those systems as reference — we are not the standards body.

Aliases vs equivalents

DL2032 / ECR2032 are brand/pack labels for CR2032 — same battery, different print on the pack.

LR44 and SR44 share size class but different chemistry — related, not equivalent. Charts that print “LR44 = 357 = AG13” often flatten that distinction.
