Canon Sure Shot battery
Canon Sure Shot / Autoboy / Prima bodies do not share one cell. Battery depends on generation — identify your model, then match AA, 2CR5 or CR123A.
Which generation do you have?
| Generation / model | Battery | Replaceable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Sure Shot / AF35M / Autoboy (≈1979–mid-1980s) | 2 × AA (LR6 alkaline) | Yes | Original Sure Shot / AF35M, Super Sure Shot / AF35ML, and New Sure Shot / AF35M II typically take two AA. Ni-Cd often banned in period manuals — prefer alkaline LR6. |
| Mid Sure Shot / Prima (2CR5 era) | 1 × 2CR5 (6V lithium) | Yes | Many mid Zoom / Supreme / Top Shot / Ace-class bodies use one 2CR5. Not interchangeable with AA or CR123A — check the bay label or Canon museum listing for your exact name. |
| Later Sure Shot / Prima (CR123A era) | 1 × CR123A (some Zooms: 2 × CR123A) | Yes | Later Max / M / A-1 WP / many Zoom bodies use CR123A. Some Z115 / Z135 / Z155 class bodies use two CR123A. Avoid 3.7V RCR123A unless the body explicitly allows it. Contax T2 and Olympus Stylus Epic are sibling CR123A compact pages on this site. |

If you only know “Sure Shot” without a model number, check the film-door sticker, base plate, or Canon Camera Museum listing before buying cells. AA, 2CR5 and CR123A are different architectures.
